Boulders Press Wenham to Ban Pickleball at Pingree Park

Select Board · Meeting of July 7, 2026

Wenham Select Board hears Boulders condo residents' push to ban pickleball at Pingree Park. Board of Trustees Chairman Bob Frischella said the courts sit less than 100 feet from the nearest home, far inside the 350-foot setback recommended by Weston and Sampson Consultants and the American Planning Association, calling the noise impacts "real." The board took no vote, pending a September community survey, but asked staff to press enforcement of existing hours. Separately, members voted unanimously to spend up to $6,000 in opioid settlement funds — the town holds just under $16,000, with payments through 2038 — to train 13 police officers at Bridgewater State University, and approved year-end budget transfers tied partly to a police overtime surge from an officer's permanent-disability retirement.

Member Gary Cheeseman opposed Community Preservation Act donor signage at the town's Civil War Memorial, warning against becoming "a town of billboards."
