Board of Health · Meeting of March 24, 2026

Wenham Board of Health joined a 16-town tobacco control initiative, unanimously adopting new permit requirements and a regional enforcement framework. The Board added language requiring tobacco retailers to attest compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tobacco sales laws and employee training, establishing grounds for permit revocation rather than fines alone. A joint regional compliance letter is planned for May 2026, with enforcement to begin July 1, 2026.

The Board also banned adult-only tobacco retail stores and smoking bars locally. In related action, the Board unanimously approved participation in a regional pooling of opioid settlement funds through the Eastern Essex Regional Public Health Coalition, directing approximately $2,500 annually toward prevention and education programming.
